Umbria is a land of many surprises! Not only precious art works, breathtaking views, unspoiled nature, great food and finest wine, but also rich handicrafts, such as ceramics, weaving, woodworking, ironworking, and something that you might not expect: cashmere!
When you say “cashmere”, you immediately think of something very valuable, expensive and for special occasions only. But nowadays there are many different kinds of cashmere textiles, including items you can wear and love every day, which are created and produced here in Umbria.
Wool processing in Umbria is deeply rooted in the Etruscan period , and today includes not just cashmere, but also silk, linen, and other specialty fibers.
Our local cashmere production is one of Umbria’s signature products, and forms an important part of the true “Made in Italy” textiles.
Upon request by my clients, I have visited many workshops and local producers to find the best quality and most interesting history. I am proud to offer the possibility of a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the best Italian cashmere producers and dealers: Della Ciana Cashmere in Torgiano.
Carlo Della Ciana is a true self-made-man; in 1978 he started from zero with a family-run activity close to Perugia. Della Ciana’s headquarters is still located on the same site as it was at the beginning, maintaining a link with his land and tradition. Not by chance, the coat-of-arms of the Della Ciana Factory includes a bee, the symbol of industry, and the griffin, the symbol of the town of Perugia.

Book the Cashmere Tour ( you can combine it with an abbreviated tour of Todi or Perugia ), explore the factory, learn more about the processing, and after that you will be free to browse the store and the outlet corner to choose your Italian dream garment! Not only will you go home with your “Made in Italy” items, but you will have a fantastic story to tell of how they were made and the people who worked on them!
