We begin in the heart of Todi. While viewing the Municipal Buildings (exterior), you’ll learn about Jacopone’s early life as a successful lawyer and notary before his radical conversion to the Franciscan Order.

Church of San Silvestro

In this ancient sacred space, we search for the oldest known portrait of Jacopone da Todi, a rare fresco dating back to the first half of the 14th century.

Pongelli Palace (Palazzo Pongelli)

The presumed paternal home of Jacopone, this Renaissance palace offers a glimpse into noble life. You can view the imposing exterior or book a private tour of the painted rooms and panoramic terrace.

Nunziatina Church: The “Small Sistine” of Todi

Often called the Small Sistina, this church houses a 1600s portrait of Jacopone by local artist Andrea Polinori.

The Bishop’s Palace (Palazzo Vescovile)

Inside the Throne Room and the Painted Corridor, we find a fresco of Pope Boniface VIII—the man who excommunicated Jacopone and sent him to prison in 1297.

Church of San Fortunato and the Tomb of Jacopone

This massive Gothic masterpiece is the tour’s highlight. It was the Franciscan hub during Jacopone’s time. We will visit the crypt to see his funeral monument (1596) and discuss the dungeon where he was once imprisoned by the Pope.
